Service Details

Susan Adele (Milner) Jolley passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on January 24, 2010. She was born on January 9, 1914 in Princeton, IL. When she was six, her family moved to Des Moines where her dad sold John Deere farm equipment.

Susan was a graduate of Des Moines East High School and attended Drake University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She met the love of her life, Robert L. (Bob) Jolley at a business class and married him on December 12, 1936. Bob worked for the Meredith Corporation for 42 years. Her fondest times were the summers spent at her beloved cabin (Sahna-Koo-ee Abode of Sun Light) on Clark Lake in Nisswa, Minnesota where she enjoyed entertaining family and friends.

Susan lived independently for the last twenty years at Mercy Park Apartments until recently when she moved to Walnut Ridge Assisted Living in Clive. She was a very independent, upbeat and joyful human being with a zest for life and made friends easily. She will be sorely missed by her family and all who knew her.

Susan is survived by a daughter Joan J. Carlson of Davenport, Iowa; a son Robert L. (Sandra) Jolley Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; niece and nephew Karen and Charles Palmer of Des Moines; a sister in law Lois Jolley of Indio, CA who were all very special in her life. Susan was preceded in death by her parents Helen and Joseph Milner, her sister Elizabeth Palmer and husband Bob.

Private services will be held at a late date. The family wants to give a special thanks to all the staff at Walnut Ridge and at Taylor House Hospice for the wonderful care Susan received, and request any donations in her memory be sent to Iowa Taylor House Hospice.
