Service Details

Ernest A. Beetner, 74, passed away on January 20, 2010 at home after a courageous four year battle with thyroid cancer. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Union Park Baptist Church, E. 9th & Arthur followed by burial with military honors at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Ernest was born to Glen and Gladys Beetner on November 22, 1935 at the family farm in Pickering, Iowa.

He was a 1953 graduate of Ferguson School having attended all 12 grades there. Ernest was a graduate of Bethel University and had completed graduate work at the University of Chicago in social work. Prior to graduation from college, Ernest spent two years in the Army working as an operating room technician. He spent nearly 20 years as Circulation Director for Wallace-Homestead/Farm Progress Publications. Later he spent time in real estate and retired from the post office.

Ernest enjoyed attending Antique Farm Equipment and Classic Car Shows. He was an active member of Union Park Baptist Church serving in numerous leadership positions in earlier years. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Ginny. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Ann; children, Doug (Keri) Beetner of Roseville, MN and Brenda (Jon) Edwards of Circle Pines, MN; grandchildren, Emily and Madeline Edwards and Nathaniel Beetner; brothers, John (Betty) Beetner of Kansas City, MO, Emmet (Lynne) Beetner of Glen Carbon, IL and Dr. Gary (Rachael) Beetner of Aplington, IA; and his mother-in-law, Evelyn Randall of Ogden, IA.

A special thank you to Stacy Schwarte, Hospice Nurse, as well as Dr. Nancy Kane, Mercy and Dr. Keith Bible, Mayo Clinic, for the wonderful care given to Ernest over the last several years.
