Arvella Mae Cory, 72, died Monday, January 18, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born January 7, 1938 in Newton, Iowa to Barbara Mae VerSteeg and Joe R. Willemsen.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, flower gardening, and traveling.
Arvella is survived by her loving husband, Richard Cory; daughter, Lori (Dwight) Thompson; son, R. Mark (Lynn) Cory; and seven grandchildren; Danny, Kevin, Cassie, Olivia, Meredith, Emily, and Ellyn.
Because Arvella loved warm weather and spring flowers, graveside services of cremated remains will be held in the springtime at Cory Grove Cemetery in Elkhart, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be made to Staves Memorial United Methodist Church in loving memory of Arvella.

Dick,Lori, Mark & Family,
Butch had a true spirit for life that
will be greatly missed. She always had
kind words and was ready to listen at
all times even when her own road was tough.
Her smile warmed the hearts of many.

Dick and Mark, We are so sorry to learn of the passing of your wife and mother, Arvella.
Betty always enjoyed your visits when you would come up to the office to see Mark, even though Arvella would tell you not to bother her. Our sympathy and prayers go out to you and all of your family.

Dear Mr. Cory,
I was so sorry to hear about your wife. I know and you know that she has gone on to a better place.
You were my driver's ed teacher at Indianola in 1965-1966 and then I was one of your students at S.E. Warren back in 1966-1967. You were a big influence on my life.

so sorry for you and your family. I saw the obituary in the paper and had to read it twice.....as I knew her has Butch... rather than Arvella. Please find comfort knowing the number of people you have touched throughout their lives are praying for you.

Uncle Dick, Lori, Mark and family - I was so saddened to get my mother's phone call. Aunt Butch was quite a lady. One of the strongest women I have known in my life and she will be missed. I will always hold close the memory of Thanksgivings at your place in Urbandale. Terr and I were a bit younger that the rest of you, so while you were doing "teen" things - Aunt Butch would get out the old Barbies in the play room to keep us busy. I think she even stayed to play some Rock'em Sock'em Robots with us too. :0) Please know that I am thinking of each of you in this difficult time. With Sympathy, Kelly
