Mauri Booton, 60, was born February 19, 1949 in Hamburg, Iowa and died suddenly Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. A Celebration of Life will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. prior to the Celebration.
Mauri was a very spirited, independent and caring man. He dedicated himself to raising cancer awareness through fundraising and volunteering. He was the founder of Project Woo Hoo!! and the former owner of Great Harvest Bread Company.
Mauri’s memory will forever be cherished by the love of his life, Mary Hellerstedt. He will also be remembered for his zest for life by the many friends whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary “Maggie” Booton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family for appropriation to John Stoddard Cancer Center and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training to carry on Mauri’s quest for a cure. “Woo Hoo!! Life is good!!”

Oh, Mary~~I'm so sorry to hear that Mauri has gone on to his next life. I never had the privilege of knowing him, although, through your stories (and YOU) I felt like I knew what a wonderful man he was.
It was so apparent how much you loved and cherished him....he was so blessed to have you in his life. I can't begin to know how heartbroken you are at this very sad time, but please know that you are loved by anyone who knows you...and that I will keep you in my prayers that you may feel that love and be comforted by it.

Mary, I only knew Mauri through your eyes. In my knowing of you, I expect even your grief will be reflected through the pool of gratitude central to who you are. Now as you adjust to Mauri's physical absence, may your memories be like the bread you made together: nourishment for your soul! Sending a hug until I am able to deliver it in person!

There has been a disruption in the force in the universe. We simply cannot believe
that Mauri has left us so soon. Mary, our prayers and thoughts are with you constantly.
Mauri raised our consciousness level about so many things. He was a caring, giving and
passionate man. We learned about Great Harvest Bakery and learned the strength needed to fight cancer. And we'll keep on fighting. Den and I feel blessed to have known Mauri. Be strong by knowing there are so many people out here who love you too.

We are so sad to hear about the sudden loss of Mauri.
He will be missed by the many he has touched in his life.
We were always impressed to hear of his different projections
and travels he had planned. He lived life and inspired others.

Dear Mary,
Sorry we missed your call. I am glad to read about the memorial service. As you can imagine "The Hat Man" did have a few extras set aside for the anticipated visits to Stoddard. Now I will have one to wear.
We are with you along with so many others during this healing process.
We DO celebrate Mauri's tremendous life and all the joy he spread to the world!
