Helen Diers

Helen was born August 1, 1922 to John and Eva Paige in Orillia, IA. She was a retired nurse with Mercy Medical Center and Army Air Corp veteran of WWII. Helen was also a member of St. Anthony Altar and Rosary as well as the American Legion Auxiliary. She also enjoyed knitting and her family.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Michael) Blouin and Sonna (Bill) Struyf; son, Alan (Joyce) Diers; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John; and great-grandson, Jacob Diers.

Helen Louise Paige Diers, 87, died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Hopsice of Central Iowa from kidney failure. Mass of Resurrection will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church Foundation or Hospice of Central Iowa.
