Service Details
George Eldon Stanton, 86, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 at Indianola Good Samaritan Society. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Born in Shelbyville, MO, George served in the Army during WWII and retired as a mail carrier from the US Post Office. He continued his dedication to his country by volunteering at the VA Hospital. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, and a delegate for the Blind Veterans Association.
George was a hero to his family and will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Good Samaritan Alzheimer’s Unit for all the love and compassion shown to George.
George is survived by his son, Robert Sr. (Angie); five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; parents; and seven siblings.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Uncle George was truly a wonderful person. I believe he and Aunt Bonnie are together right now looking down on us.
Bobbie, BJ, Shontelle, Josh....please let me know if you need anything. I am so sorry I couldnt be there.

Uncle George will be truly missed. He was a wonderful, compassionate, and loving man. All of my family extend our sincere condolences to Bobby and the entire family.

Robert--and I believe your Dad called you Big Bobbie,
My mother was at Good Sam for a number of years and that is where I met your father. I enjoyed him. He was like a breath of fresh air. He like to tell you about his family and ask about yours along with an inquiry if you had a Butterfinger candy bar.
My mother passed away at Good Sam in June, Freddie Gilliland.
George taught me the 4 lines of "See you later alligator" when I only thought there was two.
Deepest sympathy to you and your family over the loss of your father. He was such a nice man and it was my pleasure to meet and get to know him when I was there to visit my mother.
