Mark C. Hausler, 46, of Ankeny passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston following a courageous battle with cancer.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2010, at Johnston Evangelical Free Church in Johnston, Iowa, with Senior Pastor Kent Wagner officiating.

Born on July, 20, 1963, in Iowa City, he was the son of William J. and Mary L. Hausler. He graduated in 1981 from West High School in Iowa City and went on to receive his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Kansas in 1985. He received his master’s degree in aquatics biology from University of Wisconsin, La Crosse in 1995. On September 23, 1989, Mark married Jill Eppard. They were blessed with four sons; Jonathan, Samuel, Isaac and Gabriel. Mark was a research scientist at Pioneer Hi-Bred in Johnston, Iowa.

His passion was for the Lord Jesus Christ and he served Him in many ways. As a gifted guitarist and vocalist, he shared his faith through music ministry. He was the director of the Awana program at Johnston Evangelical Free church for many years. One of his true passions was serving in the mission field along side his children; traveling to Haiti and working within the United States and the greater Des Moines area.

Mark is survived by his wife Jill and their four children, his father William Hausler of Iowa City, his mother and father-in-law Robert and Jeanne Eppard of Mt. Pleasant, his three siblings and their spouses, Cheryl (Kent) Johnson, of North Liberty, Randy (Peg) Hausler, of Iowa City, Eric (Donna) Hausler of Ada, Michigan, sister-in-law Kelly (Alan) Duncan of Boone, and brother-in-law Eric (Peg) Eppard of Marion, and 14 nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Hausler and sister-in-law, Karen Eppard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Hausler Education Fund.
