Gayland Dale Kalar

Gayland Dale Kalar, 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, January 1, 2010 at Taylor House Hospice.

Gayland was born July 24, 1940 in Iowa City to Charles and Minnie Mae Kalar. He was a retired used appliance dealer. He loved spending time with his family and watching NASCAR.

Gayland is survived by his children, Della Kalar (significant other, Richard Beagles), Tammy Kalar (significant other, Tony Martinez), Cindy (Dennis) Deaton, Ronnie Kalar, Carl (Krystal) Whisler, Dale Cummings, John Hopkins, Charles (Becky) Kalar, Michael (Jackie) Kalar, and Ricky Kalar; grandchildren, Daniel Kalar, Jamie Kalar, Kristi (Justin) Christianson, Lisa Kalar, Ashley Deaton, Dennis J.R. Deaton Jr., Cameron Whisler, CeJay Whisler, Corwyn Whisler, Harlie Hopkins, Joni Hopkins, Nikole Kalar, Chelsea Kalar, and Austin Kalar; great-grandchildren, Staesha, Caleb, and Ava Christianson, Brionna and Jace Kalar; sisters, Agnes “Aggie” Hall and Violet Swartz; and life time friend, Betty Kalar. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Gaylord Dean Kalar; brothers, Everett and Jay Kalar; and sisters, Pauline Jergens; Opal Shelton; and June Whiller.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa. The family will be present from 6 to 8 pm. Cremation to follow. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Salvation Army Citadel, 1216 E. 25th Court, Des Moines, Iowa at 4:00 pm in the gymnasium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gayland’s family in his loving memory.
