James Burns, 60, passed away on December 23, 2009. He was born on January 18, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Sylvia and Mansel Burns.
He served in the United States Navy as a Radioman during the Vietnam War Era. Jim loved spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, and meeting lots of new people throughout his career. He drove 20 years for Barr-Nunn trucking company, and had almost 3 million safe miles driven, and also drove for 17 ½ years for Metropolitan Transit Authority.
James is survived by his loving wife Lynn, daughter; Melissa, son; Michael (Amanda) Burns, 4 grandsons; Preston, Dontez, Jason, and Cody whom he completely adored, and 1 niece, and 2 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Jerry Burns, sister in law; Shirley Burns, and niece, Marie.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th. A burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2009 at Southtown Funeral Home.

I am so sorry to hear the news an was shocked to to the outcome of how it all happened may he rest now an god will lift him up for all the pain he must of been sufferin from. may god be with his wife lynn an his chidern an keep them strong thorgh this trible time. i know how it feels an things happen so fast but god has a plan for all of us.

Burnsies passing has come as such a shock, he was always a person that could be counted on to go the exta mile if within his power. His love of life and energetic presence will be missed for a long long time to come.

Lynn, Mellissa, Michael and Rex:
Sharon and I always looked forward to Jim's visits here in Nashville when he had a chance to pull the truck over and spend the night or even a couple of hours on a layover. When he was here he was like a member of the family. Jim's humor always reminded Sharon of her favorite brother Sam.
As you know, Jim and I had known each other since our high school days. I'll never forget our younger days when we both worked at M.T.A. The bus company is still tarnished from of the "RAT PACK" stunts. When he had his 900 Kawasaki and we rode down Cornell St cranking out 130 mph. The annual evening get-togethers and card games when I made it to Des Moines to visit family and FRIENDS and the memories of our fishing trips will live on forever.
The M.T.A. Rat Pack is missing a member. But I know he'll be at the Pitch Table in Heaven waiting to Moon all of us!!
