Petra Camacho

Petra Camacho, 82, died December 17, 2009 at the Taylor Hospice House. Petra was born April 29, 1927 to Guadalupe and Lorenzo Garcia in Valley Junction Iowa.

Petra was a member of Our Lady of the America Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her family and going dancing.

She is survived by her daughters, Patty Baie, Linda Franco, Olivia (Justin) Schaefer, Lupe (Jack) Eaton, Dina (John) Larrison; sons, Frank (Judy) Sanchez Jr., David (Vicky) Camacho; longtime companion, Julio Portales; sister, Elpedia (David) Paloma; brother, Roy Garcia; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren.

Petra was preceded in death by husband, David L. Camacho; grandson, Franklin (Fas) Sanchez; brother, Augustine Garcia; sister, Margaret Campero.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, December 21, 2009, 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Americas, 1271 E 9th in Des Moines, burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

A visitation will occur from 4-7 PM, Sunday, December 20th at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th, Des Moines, and a rosary service will be held at 7 PM following the visitation.

Memorial contributions may be directed toward Taylor House Hospice or Our Lady of the America’s Catholic Church.
