Ben Lenig

Ben N. Lenig was born Feb. 7, 1916 to W. Ben and Coral B. Lenig in Chariton, IA. He passed from this life on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines.

Ben grew up in Lucas County, IA, graduating from Chariton High School in 1933. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army 125th Calvary during WW II in the European theater of war as a tank commander.

Following the war, Ben worked on bridge construction and for 30 years in the US Postal Service before retirement.

Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Lois M. Lenig. Left to mourn his passing are: his sister, Dorothy Montgomery of Chariton, his step-daughter, Martha Bisner, of Tavares, FL, grandchildren Julie (Rick) Gallier, of Houston, TX, Bill Clendenen of Lake Wales, FL, and Rhonda (Mike) Reich of Kiln, MS, three great- grandchildren, nieces, Kay Montgomery of Des Moines, Janice (Richard) Allison of Melrose, Linda Robinette of Sun City West, AZ, and nephews, David (Jean) Montgomery of Sun City West, AZ and Dan (Jana) Montgomery of Clive.

No services are planned. Interment of the cremains will occur at a later date.
