Merrill Thompson

Merrill Ray Thompson, 84, of Des Moines died on October 30, 2006 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center from complications of a brain tumor. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 2, 2006 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home with burial following at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Merrill was born January 21, 1922 in Warren County, the son of Earnest and Nellie Thompson. He farmed until moving to Des Moines in 1955. He was employed at Solar Aircraft and Armstrong Tire and Rubber until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and car racing.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris, his sons Stan (Sharon), Galen (Jane), and George all of Des Moines; his sister, Viola Harden of Lamoni, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. The family will greet fiends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
