Service Details
Kermit Wishard Dunn, 67, of Des Moines passed away on December 11, 2009. A celebration of life service for “Pops” will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6-8 P.M., Thursday, where there will be an 8 P.M. prayer service.
Kermit was manager of Toys-N-More where he had worked for over 20 years. He enjoyed watching boxing and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Pops touched a lot of lives over the years and was a great father and grandfather.
He is survived by his former wife, lifelong friend and mother of his children, Virginia; sons Albert, Kary and Frank (Ilima) Dunn; daughter Dee Dee Weatherly; grandchildren Brian, Jammie, Austin, Blake, Hunter, Kalianna, Kaikala, and Ekiwah; great grandson Tommy and many other family members in Ohio.
In lieu of flowers memorials are being accepted for a charitable organization for children in Pops' name.

Albert, Kary, Dee-Dee- & Frankie,
I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. I was happy that I could visit when he was in Ohio. It was nice to see, you, Kary also. I always enjoyed spending time with your family while I was growing up. From the stories I`ve heard he was friends with my brother, Sonnie, and Kermit mentioned him when we talked.
I doubt if you know this but the first vacation I took was a trip to Iowa with Aunt Sandra, my Mom and Sis(my sister).
I`ll never forget Kermit.

I worked with Kermit in the late 1960s when I was in high school and working part-time at Ardans. I am now nearly 60. Kermit is one of those special people you never forget. He was a practical joker who always made coming to work fun. Putting together swing sets in the summer was always filled with jokes and joking around and, often, getting a bb gun to shoot rats scurrying around the dumpsters at the back of the store. I had many great times with Kermit. He always made this insecure and sometimes awkward teenager feel important. The last time I saw Kermit was, perhaps, 30 some years ago, but I still harbor fond memories of our times together.
