Joyce loved her family, church, fishing, swimming, boating, archery, traveling and sewing. In previous years she owned her own motorcycle as did each family member, and they rode together. Joyce was always willing to try new things and she enjoyed being with people. Joyce was a member of the American Junior Red Cross during her middle and high school years. Joyce officially graduated from North High School in 1999 with her grandson Jason through the efforts of Dr. Joan Roberts because she attended North through 1955 and took night classes towards her diploma gaining the necessary class hours. She has awards for archery, boating, canoeing safety, junior and senior life saving. She also earned the Light Of Life award through a Church sponsored program. In her later years She was a member in good standing with FORCE One for retired City Employees. Joyce enjoyed doing church work as she began in her youth as a Sunday school teacher. For many years Joyce was the branch historian for the Church of Jesus Christ, Des Moines Northeast Restoration Branch at 3225 East Douglas, which proclaims the original gospel of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Memorial contributions may be made to Church of Jesus Christ, Des Moines Northeast Restoration Branch at 3225 East Douglas, Des Moines, IA 50317, or the American Lung Association.

Joyce ("Juice), Deloris (Lillegard) Adams and I all started to
kindergarten at Webster Elementary School, E. 12 & Lyon in 1943. We
have remained friends ever since, and got together in August of 2008
to celebrate our 70th birthdays. Dee in June, Nancy in July & Joyce
in August. We had a wonderful time checking out our old haunts, the
old neighborhood (I lived at 1337 Buchanan, Dee at 1313 Buchanan &
Joyce right across the street from me at 1338 & then down the street
to 1348 Buchanan). We were the "Three Musketeers". I loved Joyce's
sense of humor and can truthfully say I never saw her in a bad mood
except for once years ago. She was a wonderful friend and Dee & I
both will miss her more than can be expressed here. She has 3 great
kids and our sympathies go to them and to her sister, Betty & to Mike & Donald, also. Rest in peace "Juice"! Love you & I'll see you later!

I have so many loving memories with Joyce and the family. The entire Fiscel gang along with the Bertelsen's have so many chapters
throughout the years. We are glad she is at peace now and won't have
any more pain. I know Ronnie, John and Debbie have a special place
reserved beside them.
