Service Details

Joyce went home to be with her Lord on December 2, 2009. Services will be at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Monday, December 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Joyce was born at home in Des Moines to Veda and Harlan Gallagher where they lived on Walker Street near East 14th. In 1955 Joyce married the love of her life Ron Fiscel and from this marriage are three children and their spouses, Randy (Teri) Ronda (Richard) Merritt and Rickey (Beverly). There are also four grandchildren, Jason (Alison) Fiscel, Jennifer (Jason) Dix, Justin (Jaisa) Jacobe and Courtney Fiscel. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Carolyn Gallagher and her husband of 49 years, Ronald Fiscel. Joyce was also blessed with two great grandchildren Bryce Dix and Jayla Jacobe, two step grand children Jennifer (Brad) Jensen, Michael Merritt and three step great grandchildren Makala, Donovan Hudson and Harlie Jensen. Joyce is also survived by her loving brothers, Donald (Lois) Hartline, Michael Gallagher and her sister Betty (Richard) Smith.

Joyce loved her family, church, fishing, swimming, boating, archery, traveling and sewing. In previous years she owned her own motorcycle as did each family member, and they rode together. Joyce was always willing to try new things and she enjoyed being with people. Joyce was a member of the American Junior Red Cross during her middle and high school years. Joyce officially graduated from North High School in 1999 with her grandson Jason through the efforts of Dr. Joan Roberts because she attended North through 1955 and took night classes towards her diploma gaining the necessary class hours. She has awards for archery, boating, canoeing safety, junior and senior life saving. She also earned the Light Of Life award through a Church sponsored program. In her later years She was a member in good standing with FORCE One for retired City Employees. Joyce enjoyed doing church work as she began in her youth as a Sunday school teacher. For many years Joyce was the branch historian for the Church of Jesus Christ, Des Moines Northeast Restoration Branch at 3225 East Douglas, which proclaims the original gospel of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

All those who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing her will miss Joyce’s pleasant, endearing and energetic presence.
