Ruth Ann Woodward

Ruth Ann Woodward, 89, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, at Bickford of West Des Moines. She was born July 1, 1934, in Carroll, Iowa to Francis and Margaret (Rust) Fitzsenry. She was raised in Breda, Iowa, and moved to Des Moines during her sophomore year of high school. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1952 and married Francis Woodward in 1955.

Ruth was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and a Cub Scout den mother for many years. She enjoyed ceramics, going dancing, and attending Iowa Cubs games but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Ruth is survived by her children, Chris (Stacey) Woodward, Molly Woodward, John (Cheryl) Woodward, Frank (Kristi) Woodward, and Katie (Tom) Jones; grandchildren, Carina, Kami (Jake), Joe (Michael), Michelle, Jacob, Rachel, Billy, Reilly, Brynn, and Spencer; great-grandchildren, Reed, Wyatt, and Weston; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; parents; two brothers; and four sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue with interment to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. vigil service on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
