Douangkeo Vorasane

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Douangkeo Vorasane, known as “Kay”, of Des Moines, Iowa, on August 13, 2023, at the age of 61, surrounded by her family and friends by her side. 

She was born to late Khammeung Sananikone and Chanhfanh Khammalavong on October 10, 1961, in Banh Napang, Laos. She was the last out of nine in a family of six girls and three boys. 

She married Bounkouang Vorasane in 1977 in Banh Napang, Laos. They endured the refugee camp in Thailand before coming to the United States in 1988. 

On the corner of the yard my mother could be found tending to her beloved garden. She found joy in taking care of people,animals, and especially her plants. Her quick witted humor would brighten faces with shining grins and loud laughter. She would then begin cooking her food for people which she loved to do even on her worst days. She filled the hearts and stomachs of everyone around her, this was her way of spreading her love and light in this world.

Douangkeo was preceded in death by her husband, Bounkouang, her daughter, and parents. She is survived by two children: Viraxay and Cindy;  three grandchildren, Alexander, Eric, and Julius; and grand dog, Rocco. 

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines with cremation following. Urn burial will take place Wednesday, August 23rd at 12:00 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery.
