Darrell Daugherty
August 07, 2023
Darrell Stanley Daugherty passed away August 7, 2023 at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center at the age of 94.
Darrell was born at home on a farm on February 14, 1929 in Lacona, Iowa to Stanley and Gladys (Loney) Daugherty. Darrell lived through many childhood experiences including helping out on the farm, growing up with four other brothers and sisters, eating ExLax like candy, living through a house fire, listening to the old radio programs, and getting into many other escapades with his brother Bill. Darrell married the love of his life Vesper Ansley on May 31, 1947. They had two daughters, Bernita and Janet.
Darrell worked many jobs throughout his life including working on the railroad, a dairy farm, a rivet gang, Solar Aircraft, a packing plant, and his favorite, sales in graphic arts. He worked in Des Moines, Kalamazoo, and Omaha. He was such a hard worker that he retired three times including his last job delivering “drugs” to Hy-Vee at the age of 91. Darrell enjoyed reading,
using his tools, going out to eat, socializing, dessert, being with family, going to church, and most of all he loved the Lord Jesus.
The highlight of Darrell’s life was when in 1948, he and wife Vesper came to know Jesus Christ at Saylorville Baptist church. They faithfully served the Lord for many years at churches in Omaha, Michigan, and Des Moines, including Emmanual Baptist Church. In more recent years, Indianola Regular Baptist Church became his church home.
Darrell is survived by his daughters, Janet Waggoner of Des Moines and Bernita Cicirello of Florida; Tony II of Tennessee; grandchildren, Gretchen (Darl) Kaldenberg of Indianola, Dustin (Alina) Waggoner of Grimes, Ami Cicirello of Tennessee, Tony Cicirello III of Nebraska and Tina Shibley of Washington state; and numerous great-grandchildren, other family and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vesper Daugherty, his brothers and sisters, and son-in-law, Gary Waggoner.
The family will greet friends Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

I'll miss you Uncle Darrell, especially meeting at McDonald's in Indianola after your HyVee run and going out to eat at Cracker Barrel. What a blessing you've been to me and our family.
When you're visiting with Dad, be sure to let Vesper get in a word, too! Lots of love. ❤

I am sorry for your loss. Darrell was a wonderful man. I will forever remember his kindness to me as I was growing up at Emmanuel. His love for Christ was demonstrated in how he cared for others.
The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him. ~Proverbs 20:7
He was a blessing to so many.

My late husband, Norm, so admired Darrell and his brother Bill. Their faith and integrity were often extolled by Norm. And after Norm passed, Darrell stopped to offer his testimony and leaving his card in case I needed odd jobs performed. His sincere kindness was true comfort. I am sorry to hear of his passing. His love for Christ was contageous!

I remember several years ago dad (Darrell's brother Bill) talking about him. He said "Darrell has led more people to the Lord than anyone else I know. We would be at the gas station. I would go in and pay. Darrell had shared his testimony to the person at the other pump and they were praying." I will miss him, but I can just imagine the family reunion there. Vesper, his siblings, parents, and those people that he witnessed to. I'm sad for us but so happy for him being with our Lord. Well done Uncle Darrell.
