Betsy Ann Gamerdinger
August 05, 2023
Betsy Gamerdinger, 36, passed away peacefully August 5, 2023 from a long-time heart condition.
Betsy was born May 26, 1987 in Des Moines, Iowa to William and Karen Gamerdinger. She graduated from Urbandale High School in 2005 and attended college at DMACC, Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. She was employed at Just Paws Pet Store.
Betsy had a very fun-loving spirit; she was a practical joker and loved to make others smile. One of the things she and Mike, the love of her life, liked to do was dress up in costumes for all different occasions and sometimes for no reason at all. She loved to make people laugh and always displayed her big heart to help others before herself.
Betsy enjoyed playing with her nephews, her four-legged bestie, Bruno, and fur baby nephews, Duke and Bruiser. Assembling Legos, puzzle books and playing bingo were other interests of Betsy’s. She had a love for live music and riding the lawn mower. She enjoyed spending time with family and nights by the bonfire with friends; these were some of her favorite pastimes.
Those left to honor her memory are her best friend and long-time love, Mike Ball, Des Moines, IA; her mother, Karen Gamerdinger (Randy Meyer) Johnston, IA; sister, Billie (Brian) Payne, Waterloo, IA.; brother, Ryan (Erin) Gamerdinger, West Des Moines, IA; nephews, Grady and Nash Gamerdinger, West Des Moines, IA. and Koy (Kayla) Payne, Lakeville, MN.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding Betsy in death were her father William Gamerdinger; her grandparents George Gamerdinger, Janet and Bob James and Ralph and Mardell Hane; her Aunt Vicki Pieper and her fur baby Boo Bear.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Hamilton Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, IA with a service at 6:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at Christopher’s Restaurant, in Des Moines, IA 50310.

Although I'd only known Betsy a few years, she was like fine champagne - sparkly, bubbly, and effervescent! She embraced life to the fullest. May God hold her in the palm of His hand.

Betsy, you were and will always be my beautiful angel sister you left us all way too soon. I feel so incredibly lucky to have spent these precious months knowing and loving you and feeling your warm ray of sunshine anytime you were in the room. You made me feel more welcomed, loved and accepted than I ever hoped for and I was so excited to be your sister and have more amazing times together. You loved my little Freja and you made me forget all of the stress and hard times when you were around. You were the friend I had waited forever for and words cannot describe how much I already miss you. Less than a week ago I hugged you and did not expect it to be for the last time. I will never forget you and the impact you had on my life and so many others. I love you so very much and always will.
