Samantha Barrera Monarca

Con profundo pesar comunicamos el trágico fallecimiento de Samantha Isabel Barrera Monarca, quien falleció el 31 de julio de 2023, a la edad de 14 años, dejando al luto a familiares y amigos. Samantha nació como hija de José Barrera y Luz Monarca el 15 de mayo de 2009 en Charlotte, Carolina del Norte.

Samantha asistió a la Escuela Primaria Devonshire en Charlotte, Carolina del Norte. Más tarde, su familia se mudó a Iowa, donde comenzó a asistir a la Escuela Secundaria Harding en Des Moines y esperaba con ansias ser estudiante de primer año en la Escuela Secundaria North. Desde el momento en que nació, su alegría interior pareció brillar y todos la amaron instantáneamente. Samantha era conocida tanto por su pasión, atletismo y habilidades para el fútbol. Cuando no estaba jugando al fútbol, se podía encontrar a Samantha escuchando música, dibujando, haciendo pulseras y pasando tiempo con sus amigos y familiares. Samantha podía ser tímida y callada a veces, pero una vez que realmente conocía a alguien, se convertía en la persona más habladora y extrovertida de la sala. El velorio se llevará a cabo de 10:00 p. m. a 8:00 p. m. el domingo 6 de agosto de 2023 en Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. La misa de cristiana sepultura se celebrará el lunes a las 11:00 a. m. el 7 de agosto de 2023 en la iglesia católica Christ the King, 5711 SW 9th, Des Moines. La familia saludará a los amigos dos horas antes del servicio en la iglesia. Ella será sepultada en el cementerio de Glendale, Des Moines.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the tragic death of Samantha Isabel Barrera Monarca, who passed away on July 31, 2023, at the age of 14, leaving to mourn family and friends. Samantha was born the daughter of Jose Barrera & Luz Monarca on May 15, 2009, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Samantha attended Devonshire Elementary School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her family later moved to Iowa where she began attending Harding Middle School in Des Moines and was looking forward to being a freshman at North High School. From the moment she was born, her inner joy seemed to shine and everyone loved her instantaneously. Samantha was well-known for her passion, athleticism, and skills in soccer. When she wasn’t playing soccer, Samantha could be found listening to music, drawing, making bracelets, and spending time with her friends & family. Samantha could be shy and quiet at times, but once she really got to know someone she became the most talkative and outgoing person in the room. Some of her favorite things included squirrels and her absolute love for pizza. She was a sweet and loving girl and will be deeply missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her parents Jose Barrera & Luz Monarca, siblings Karen, Karina, and Ronnie Barrera Monarca, uncles Oscar (Maria) Barrera and Jose Wilber Batres, aunts Estela Barrera, Sixta Monarca, and Marcelina Monarca, cousins Yuri Olivarez and many more.

Please join our family in remembering her bright and beautiful life. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 a.m. August 7, 2023, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th, Des Moines. The family will greet friends two hours prior to the service at the church. She will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines.
