Elsie E. Hubbard
July 29, 2023
Elsie Hubbard, 83, passed away on July 29, 2023, at MercyOne.
Elsie was born March 5, 1940 in Eugene, Oregon to John and Eileene Frerichs. On November 15, 1972, she married Bill Hubbard. Elsie operated an in-home daycare where she loved and cared for many children through the years. She was also a sales rep with Avon Cosmetics for over 40 years. When her children were growing up, she was very involved in PTA meetings, school events, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. Elsie remembered everyone’s birthday and always sent a card. She enjoyed decorating her house for every holiday and was amazingly creative. Elsie was incredibly meticulous, very organized, and always had everything planned out to the very last detail. She was an avid 49ers and racing fan. Elsie also had a passion for butterflies.
Elsie is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, William “Bill” Hubbard; children, Jerry Hubbard, Eileene (Scott) Bailey, James (Brittany) Hubbard, Chad (Lori) Hubbard, and Robert (Christine) Hubbard; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her siblings, Don, Bob, Evelyn, Judy, and Walt; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Justin; and her siblings, Donna, Mary, and Alvin.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 2 pm at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. The family encourages everyone to dress comfortably and casually. For those unable to attend in person, the family invites you to join them virtually through the link in her obituary found on Hamilton’s website.

I want to send my Condolences to Bill and the boys. I just found out today Jan. 17, 2024, that Elsie had past away. Dana Iller was sending Christmas cards and today she finally heard from Bill what had happened. Dana Iller who now lives down the street from me in Modesto Cal. also lived at the apt complex that we all lived at when Elsie ran them.
Elsie was my mom's best friend in Mt.View, Cal., everything they said about Elsie is so right on because I remember every birthday, holiday, even friendship day mom got a card and even gifts for just because. We met the entire family in 84 or 85 and they would come to our home on Higdon for parties or just to talk and visit. My mom passed away in June of 2017, so I know she is in heaven and Elsie is there with her now and they are probably talking and enjoying an after life with one another. So I want to say Elsie you are missed and we loved you then and we love you now. May you Rest in Peace. God has definitely gained an angel to his heaven.

Sorry for your loss. Elsie was best friends with my late grandmother Wilma for many years. I remember Elsie and my grandma always being together. Our home had an endless stock of Avon. I still have a bottle of Rare Pearls that Elsie last sent to my grandma before she passed.

Aunt Elsie will be missed. Though we lived across the country most of my life, our paths did cross several times and I always treasured those moments. I will be forever grateful that the last couple years provided several of those visits. It always seemed like no time had passed. I know my kids and myself will miss receiving our yearly birthday cards. We always said your birthday didn't start until we received her card. And it always arrived early. Much love and happy memories to all that she blessed.

Although we lived far apart most of our adult lives, we always kept in touch and shared information of our progress and regressions (which sometimes occur). We could always count on at least one birthday, anniversary, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Fathers/Mother's Day cards for we knew we would get one from Elsie whose thoughtfulness was treasured. Each card had an encouraging or complimenting message. It seems impossible that she has been taken but apparently her wings were ready although our hearts were not. Heaven gets another angel who we will get to see again when our time comes. Remember the good times and it will help you through the rougher times. God Bless!
