Cecilia Ann Nelson

Cecilia Ann Nelson, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Cecilia was born April 14, 1940, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Harold Emory Nelson and Lily Evelyn (Peterson) Nelson. In 1954, Cecilia moved with her parents to Arizona. She graduated from Tucson High School in 1958. She attended The California Lutheran Bible School in Los Angeles, California, graduating in 1960. She then earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Arizona in 1964, and her Master’s Degree in Education in 1969. While living in Arizona, she taught elementary school for four years. She returned to Iowa and worked for the Department of Natural Resources, retiring after more than 40 years of faithful service. She was a faithful member and supporter of First Federated Church, now The Mission Church. She loved missions.

Cecilia’s memory will be cherished by a host of relatives and friends who will miss her cards and letters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lily Nelson, and by an infant brother.

There will be a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2023, at The Mission Church, 12001 Ridgemont Drive, Urbandale, IA 50323, with a luncheon immediately following. Urn burial will take place at Dayton Cemetery in Dayton, Iowa at 3:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions would be appreciated to The Mission Church or the Japanese Evangelical Mission Society.
