Service Details

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Inge Hamling, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Inge peacefully departed from this world on July 26 ,2023, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.

Born in Cuxhaven, Germany, on September 11, 1943, Inge's life journey took her across the Atlantic Ocean when she was just eight years old, as she and her family immigrated to the United States. They settled in Hartley, Iowa, where she would grow up and become an integral part of the community. Inge's passion for education led her to the University of Northern Iowa, where she pursued her dreams of becoming a teacher. With dedication and hard work, she earned her teaching degree and embarked on a remarkable 42-year career as an elementary teacher. For 41 of those years, she lovingly imparted knowledge and inspired countless young minds within the Council Bluffs Community School District. Beyond her professional achievements, Inge's greatest joys in life were her family and friends.

She is survived by her son Scott (Allison) Hamling; stepdaughters, Mary Field and Patti (Mark) Wayne; stepson, Jeff (Debbie) Hamling; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

Inge was preceded in death by her loving husband, Duaine Hamling, with whom she shared a life full of love and shared dreams. She was also reunited with her parents, Rudolph and Anni Bohrensen, her sister, Annelie Fitzgerald, and her stepson, Joe Hamling.

Though Inge has left us, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will forever remain etched in our memories. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association.
