Betty Jane Bricker, 94, passed away peacefully July 23, 2023, at Wesley Acres in Des Moines.

Betty was born May 21, 1929, in Hebron, Iowa to Jacob and Mary (Whitlow) Twombly. Betty grew up in Greenfield, Iowa, moving to Des Moines, Iowa when she was 15. Betty graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, and it was there she met and married John Kierulff. Three children were born to this union, John Stephen, Mary and Rebecca.

In 1958, Betty married Wayne Bricker. Betty and Wayne loved being on the water. They enjoyed fishing, boating, and entertaining friends-family on their houseboat. Betty had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She especially enjoyed listening to Country-Ballad crooners of her era. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, collecting rocks from her many travels, and gardening. She was known for her sense of style, her loyalty, and her strength. Betty will be remembered also for her words of wisdom, “No matter what you do in life, never suffer from lack of class!”

Betty is survived by her children: John (Linda) Sheehan, Mary (Tony) Leto, and Rebecca Kierulff; her brothers: John Twombly, Bill (Terry) Twombly, and Bob (Tonna) Twombly; her sister, Sandy (Ken) Gallagher; sister-in-law, Dorothy Twombly; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Mary Twombly; her brother, Kenneth (Bergen) Twombly; husbands, John Kierulff and Wayne Bricker; grandson, John Leto; and her beloved fur baby, Murphy.

Family will greet friends 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 N.W. 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens, 1 NE 60th Avenue Des Moines, Iowa. A luncheon will be held at the funeral home following the burial.
