Martha Anne Martin, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at her home in Des Moines, surrounded by her family.
Martha was born September 29, 1930, in Hammond, Indiana to Lester N. and Bertha I. (Lonie) Forbes. She married Adrian Martin and they enjoyed 62 years together before his passing in 2014. She was a substitute teacher in her early years, but retired from Cokesbury Christian Bookstore after many years of employment there. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed RV-ing, visiting state parks, and hiking. Martha was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen (John) Sheldon; son, Dennis Martin (Kathy Roughton); grandchildren: Rebecca, Abigail and Rachel Sheldon, Brandon Pirkle, and Lacie Gwinn; dear friend, Kenny Beaderstadt; and many other relatives and friends. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian Martin and her sister, Mary Rossignuolo.
There will be a memorial service on Monday, August 7, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines beginning at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
