Dan C. Gamble
July 18, 2023
Dan Culver Gamble, of Des Moines Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2023. Dan was born September 26, 1947 in Leon, Iowa to Ernest and Eula Gamble. He attended North High School in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated with the class of 1966. During this time, he met and fell in love with Diana Hermann and the two married on February 7, 1969. To this union, 3 daughters were born and were raised in Saylorville, Iowa where he remained for 52 years.
After high school Dan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was a very proud veteran of the Infantry Echo Company and served in the Vietnam War. He returned home safely after being wounded and was honored with the Purple Heart. After his return, he concentrated on raising his family and held several occupations over the years. He served for a time in the catering department at Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines. There he met one of his lifelong friends Fred and had many experiences that others still find so intriguing today (like being introduced to Elvis Presley). His main occupation led him all the way to his retirement in 2021 from CDS Global in Des Moines where he served as a warehouse manager. He met many people there and was proud to call some of them his dear friends.
Dan will be remembered as very generous and funny man as he always put everyone else’s needs before his own. He was a great provider for his family, friends and anyone he encountered that needed assistance. Dan would literally “give you the shirt off of his back”. His lifetime of dedication to his country and family are the things that will truly never be forgotten and cherished by those who knew him best.
Dan enjoyed many hobbies throughout his lifetime including working on cars, being outdoors, and chatting with the many co workers and friends that he had made. The most important passion in his life and his greatest devotion was to his family. He always greeted visitors with open arms and thoroughly enjoyed time spent with his loved ones telling stories, showing them new improvements with the house and cars, or simply just sitting and having a cup of coffee. Times that will truly be missed.
Those left to honor Dan’s memory are daughters Tracy (John) Ripperger of Des Moines; Kristin (Jim) Wilbanks of Urbandale; grandson Patrick Gamble Wilbanks of Urbandale; brother John Gamble of Grimes, and sisters Joan Miller (Chris) of Des Moines and Christine Gamble of Des Moines along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and also the beloved family dog Stella.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Eula, adopted mother Mariam Gamble, wife Diane Hermann Gamble, daughter Katherine Gamble Bowersox (Kate), brother Ron Gamble, and sister Jean Gamble Chavez.
Visitation will be held July 29, 2023 from 10am to 12 pm with Military Honors to follow at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave in Des Moines Iowa with a lunch to follow at Chuck’s Restaurant located at 3610 6th Ave, Des Moines Iowa 50313.
In Lieu of flowers, we ask that any memorial donations be directed to VFW # 9662 Saylorville Iowa. Proceeds will be donated to place a marker in Dan’s memory and recognition to his dedication to this country. Condolences may be expressed at: www.HamiltonsFuneralHomes.com

Sorry to hear of your families loss. In junior high at Harding there was a group of us that were very close. Several of us also attended the same church. Dan was such a sweet genuine friend. Always great memories. RIP Dan. Great picture.
