Austin Donald Nyheim, 27, of Baxter, Iowa unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023 after injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Austin was born on May 18, 1996 in Des Moines, Iowa to Wayne Nyheim and Beckie Reed. After Austin graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 2014, he received his Associate’s Degree in the General Motors Automotive Service Education Program (ASEP) at Des Moines Area Community College.
Austin was the Shop Manager for Liberty Ready Mix. He was an excellent mechanic and had a great work ethic. Austin had a passion for golfing, hunting, motorcycles, baseball, the Minnesota Vikings and being part of the pit crew of the #15 CBR sprint car at Knoxville Raceway. Austin enjoyed life, family, and his many friends. Austin was a kind, selfless person that would help anyone in need and a patient, gentle teacher to anyone that shared his passions with him. Austin was a ray of light and will always be remembered by everyone lucky enough to have known him.
Austin was preceded in death by Ed and Robin Roderick, and Shirley Nyheim. He is survived by his mother Beckie (Kenny) Reed, his father Wayne (Michele Lauridsen-McKibben) Nyheim, his sisters Briana (Travis) Warnke and Katie (Max) Thompson, his grandfather Paul Nyheim, his step-grandmother Kathy Reed, his step-sisters Megan McKibben and Stacie (Nick) Schroeder, his step-brother Dustin (Suzanne) Reed, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 from 6-9 pm. Austin’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10 am. Both will be held at the Altoona United Methodist Church at 602 5th Avenue SW Altoona, Iowa 50009.

One of my favorite things about Austin was his smile, and of course the personality behind it. He lit up a room. I am so sorry for your loss. Sending prayers for your familys loss.
