Larry Watkins

Larry Lee Watkins, 77, died in his sleep at home, Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

Larry was born October 26, 1945, in Jefferson, Iowa to Donald and Phyllis (Wallace) Watkins. He served in the U. S. Army, 4th Infantry, in Pleiku during the Vietnam Conflict.

His childhood interest in airplanes and flying led him to a career as a pilot and flight instructor. He flew a Lear Jet for Meredith Corporation, retiring at age 55. After retirement, he owned and operated Watty’s Videos, Watty’s Steakhouse, and Watty’s of Carlisle.

After his second retirement, he enjoyed traveling by train, and spending time with his grandson and great grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his wife Sharon Hill Watkins, son John Watkins of West Jordan, UT, daughter Andrea Smith and husband Todd of Urbandale, IA, sister Debi Walters and husband Bill of San Jose, CA, brother Jim Watkins and wife Judy of Hartford, IA, grandson Joe Bell and wife Britten of Norwalk, IA, and his two great-grandchildren Ayda and Jalen.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents.

Honoring Larry’s wishes, there will be no services held at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his family for charitable donations made in his memory, to organizations he supported.
