Daniel Albert Payne, 67, passed into the light of everlasting joy and happiness on Friday, July 14, 2023.

Daniel was born February 4, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa to Donald and Dorothy (White) Payne. He graduated from North High School in 1974. After graduation he traveled some, then became an amazing, dedicated, single father, all while working a full-time job and two part-time jobs.

Dan was a caring and generous man, always there to lend a hand to anyone. If you were Dan’s friend, he was your friend for life. His friends constantly described him as the calmest and most patient man they had ever met. When he was not working, he coached softball and was on a volleyball team. He had a love for pool and was on a pool league for several years as well.

Dan was a proud grandfather and loved to spend time with his twin grandchildren, Nathan and Natalie. He will be remembered as a strong, caring, intelligent jokester who always made people laugh and smile.

He is survived by his daughters, Amanda (Jose) Payne and Erica (Jessie) Haltiner, and his sister, Debbie (Russ) Garrison. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Dorothy Payne, and his sister, Darcy (Bob) Bowers.

A memorial service will be held at Thoreau Center, 3500 Kingman Blvd, Des Moines, IA 50311 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday July 27, 2023.
