July 13, 2023
Arlene was born in LuVerne, Iowa on July 31, 1925.
She was baptized into the Christian Faith at
Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. She went to
country school and was confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on March 17, 1940. Arlene graduated from LuVerne High School. From there she went to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines as a cadet nurse. She graduated on May 2, 1948. Arlene worked in various Iowa hospitals but felt there was not enough of a challenge. Because of previous experience working with neuro-surgical patients, she moved to Dallas, San Antonio
and Seattle to work with critical care patients.
Arlene retired from Seattle Veterans Hospital in 1976. Her decision was to return to Iowa and her family. It was the best decision she made as she enjoyed spending 16 years with her mother. She moved to Altoona in 1992. These were enjoyable years of volunteer work with her church and traveling. She enjoyed visiting friends in the nursing home and joined the Altoona Campus, exercising regularly.
Arlene is survived by her sister, JoAnn (Chuck) Schafer; nieces and nephews, Connie Warmbier, Terry (Carol) Warmbier, Dawn (Mark) Jones, Deb (Jed) Fisk, Danette (Mike) Botts, Dirk Schafer and Paula (Glen) Luse. Along with many great nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Mary Warmbier; siblings, Don Warmbier, Wayne Warmbier and Maxine Goetsch.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., at Hope Lutheran Church, 3857 E. 42nd Street, Des Moines.

Arlene was an amazing person. I always enjoyed visiting with her about sports and current events. Each year I looked forward to the peppermint ice cream she brought to our Christmas family gatherings. She was deeply rooted in her faith to the Lord, and it gives me comfort knowing she is now in Heaven.
