Karla Sue Mapel

Karla Sue Mapel was freed from her earthly tethers on July 6, 2023.

Karla was born September 25, 1965 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was a cowgirl early on, learning to ride a horse by the time she was three years old, with an already worn-out Stetson and Tony Lamas. She enjoyed softball playing on the local youth team in Des Moines. As an adult, her love for baking and cooking kept her busy as any career would, and she found herself making cakes for most family events and weddings.

Karla loved being with her family gathering around the table and playing games. Her heart, however, was in the outdoors, from fishing to campfires, water to mountains. Nothing lifted her spirit more than an adventure.

She will be missed deeply by her four sisters, Reva (Andy), Lu Ann (Emily), Sonnie (Bruce), and Barbie (Hollis); eleven nieces and nephews; seventeen great -nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored; and
beloved family friend, Cheryl Reece.

She joins our sister Dianna (1959), our mother Rose (2002), and our father Roger (2011) in a heavenly reunion.

Celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2023 at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. For those guest unable to attend the service in person, the service will be livestreamed and can be see here at Hope Livestream

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to C.A.S.T. for Kids in loving memory of Karla Mapel.
