Travis W. Holden

Travis Wayne Holden passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Good Samaritan Center in Indianola, Iowa. Travis was born on March 12, 1944 in Fort Worth, Texas and moved to Marshalltown, Iowa in 1953 where he graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1962. He enlisted in the US Army soon after graduation and served in the Vietnam War during his 24 -year career. On August 6, 1971 he married Martha Hoffmann and they had three children together.
Travis proudly served as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Disabled Veterans of America. He was a member of Post 738 where he held many positions including being a member of the Honor Guard and serving as a Post Commander. He participated in the VFW at the District and State levels and was the State of Iowa Commander in 2015 - 2016.
Travis is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Martha; children, Travis II (Amy) Holden, Amber Holden and Elizabeth (Brian) Robinson; and grandchildren, Camille, Emily (Jacob), Richard, Adelynn, Jack and Lailah.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; brother, Ross; sister, Mary; and grandson, Josef.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. noon Friday, July 14, 2023 at Amazing Grace Church, 1903 53rd Street in Des Moines, IA, followed by full military honors presented by Post 738. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the service. His cremated remains will be interred at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

My sincere condolences to Martha and the Holden family. Travis was an amazing supporter our Young Patriots Club, always encouraging and helpful. Im grateful for his service to our country and community. It was a blessing and honor to know Travis! He is a friend who will be greatly missed!

Travis is a friend and mentor to myself and many others. His lasting legacy on the Iowa Dept of Veterans of Foreign Wars will last for many years. With his passing we have lost a tremendous resource and valuable source of knowledge and wisdom.
