Marilyn Mahoney was born in Racine, Wisconsin in 1957, the daughter of Harold J. and Tola J. Mahoney. She was a homemaker. She was the fifth out of eight children. Marilyn grew up in Paddock, Wisconsin and attended Salem Grade School. After she graduated, she chose not to attend high school, but instead helped bring up her younger siblings. When she was 18, she moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin for a few years until she moved to San Diego, California, where she would meet her longtime companion, Jose Urista, after which they moved to Newton, Iowa. Marilyn spent many years there then would finally settle in Des Moines. Jose passed away in 2019, after which Marilyn remained single until her death. She was considered stepmom to Jose's children and grandma to his grandchildren. Marilyn touched many lives over the years, always thinking of others and never missing a birthday for anyone. She is survived by three sisters, Becca, Tammy, and Jamie, two brothers, Dale and Danny, and her nieces and nephews.
