Emma Murfin

Emma Murfin, 90, passed away on June 13, 2023, at Unity Point Health - Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Emma was born March 11, 1933, in Forest City, Iowa. She married Max Murfin on September 28, 1957. Emma worked as a Registered Nurse for Iowa Lutheran Hospital and East Des Moines Family Care Center in the Des Moines area. She was a member of Lincoln Heights Lutheran Church. Faith and family were Emma’s life. She enjoyed gardening and would often times make bouquets for services at her church. Emma also loved to needlepoint and knit in her spare time.

Emma is survived by her daughters, Susan Murfin and Kathy (Mark) Timmerman; grandchildren, Connor Timmerman and Harper Timmerman; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Bartleson and Esther Hannah; husband, Max Murfin; infant daughter, Karen Sue Murfin; and her sisters, Mattie Tweeten, Phoebe Bartleson, and Neva Clothier.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 17, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

I just got to know Emma in the last six months of her life. I am the vacancy pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Indianola. I visited her and Susan. Emma was always appreciative of the Gospel message and expressed her faith in Jesus. She gladly received His body and blood in the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. May her memory be blessed among us and her family be comforted with the eternal salvation she now enjoys.
