Robert Edward Conley, Jr.

Robert Conley, 66, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2023, at his home in Shelby, Iowa. Robert was born on August 20, 1956, in Des Moines where he grew up and graduated from Lincoln High School and worked for Polk County in Central Stores for 28 years.

Robert loved music, especially big band and symphonies and had an extensive record collection, which was his passion in life. He had a terrific memory and could name each song on each of his hundreds of albums, and one of his fondest memories was traveling to Salt Lake City with his father to see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir perform in concert. He lived in downtown Des Moines for many years and was a devoted member of the St. Ambrose Cathedral, where he was a fixture at weekly Mass. He also loved to go to Allie's Restaurant for a Marriott Burger and an iced tea and would religiously finish the day watching the ten o'clock news on KCCI.

Robert truly enjoyed spending his summers and weekends at his family's lake house in Clear Lake, Iowa where he would attend Sunday band concerts in the city park and frequent the famous Dairy Queen down the street. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Rosalie and Robert Conley, sister Katy Pepper and brother Dennis. He is survived by sisters, Margaret Conley, Mary Ann Greiner (John) of Des Moines and Susan Conley of Illinois; as well as two nieces and five nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday July 14, 2023, at St. Ambrose Cathedral, 607 High Street in Des Moines with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
