Kelly E. Burks, Sr.

Kelly Eugene Burks, Sr., 52, passed from this life on June 28, 2023.

Kelly was born August 11, 1970, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the first born to Lavone “Binky” and Carlotta Burks. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines, Iowa. Kelly graduated from North High School in 1988 were he participated in many sports and the drama department. He was a man of many talents and worked in a variety of industries over his life. Family was important to Kelly and if he called you a friend you were considered family. He was always the jokester and loved telling stories to lighten the mood.

Left to cherish Kelly’s memory are his mother, Carlotta Burks-McKay; children, Kelleesha, Marlisa, and Kelly Burks Jr.; siblings, Marlisa “Nikki” (Robert) Guion, Mike McKay, Michelle “Mickey” McKay, Marka McKay, Brandi (Edward) Ruffin, Michaela (Glenn) Arrington; uncles, Kenny (fondly nicknamed “Unc’s”) Brewer, Jeff (Criss) Brewer; aunt, Deedra Jolly; and a host of cousins and friends.

Kelly was preceded in death by his father, Lavone Burks; stepfather, Michael McKay; grandparents, Kenneth and Rose Brewer, Frank and Ella Mae Burks; uncles, Daryl Brewer and Eugene Burks; aunt, Annette Brewer; cousins, Grace & Valor Brewer, and Anthony Jolly.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines Iowa.
