James Briseno

James Briseno, 89, passed away June 23, 2023, at The Villages in Indianola, Iowa.
James was born May 2, 1934, in Hershey, Nebraska to Manuel and Sebastana Briseno. He served 31 years with the U.S. Air Force and Iowa Air National Guard, retiring in 1984 as a Senior Master Sergeant. He continued public service with the City of Carlisle as the Parks Director for many years. James loved sports and enjoyed coaching softball, basketball, and baseball. He was a devout Catholic and an active member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.
James is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Thomasine “Tomi” Briseno; daughters, Deanna (Tim) Erickson, Debby Miller, and Jamie (Bryan) Mick; six grandchildren, Katie (Alex) Hernandez, Heath Johnson, Tiffany (Ryan) Fuller, Justin Miller, Travis Mick, and Hannah (Chad) Carlson; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, two sisters; five brothers; and son-in-law, Dave Miller.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 2566 Scotch Ridge Road, Carlisle, IA on August 18, 2023. Visitation will be at 9:30 am and mass at 10:30 am.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church.

Tomi.this is Hugo.one of Jims classmates from Paxton (NE) High School.Jim is one of my favorites from those days..he was great company.several years ago, after you settled in Carlisle, he contacted me on the Web and we enjoyed sporactic exchanges thereafter until a few years ago. Memories of him will always bring a smile. When you two married, I knew you were to young and it would never last. Might be the first time I was wrong by 70 years.
