Service Details

Mack’s life began on June 2, 1948, in Great Bend, KS. On June 23, 2023, he passed away peacefully at home after a five-year journey with Alzheimer’s. He was the son of Merle and Opal (McBride) Deichman. Mack was united in marriage to Cathy (Camp) Deichman on October 12, 1967. Mack cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Mack and Cathy started their married life in Kansas where their daughters were born, and he started his career in industrial pipe insulation. In the fall of 1980, the family moved to Ames, IA and found a welcoming community in Grand Avenue Baptist Church. As Mack grew his insulation career he started his own company, Insulation Update. Using his trade knowledge to create a line of products for the industrial pipe insulation industry that are still commonly in use today. Mack had the amazing ability to see needs not only in individuals he encountered but also in the community around him and helped provide the support to make the world around us all a better place. He did this by being involved with southern Baptist churches, Christian education, and business organizations. As he moved toward retirement, he started Celebration Homes which provided needed housing opportunities in Cambridge, IA and the east side of Des Moines, IA. In retirement, Mack and Cathy split their time between Iowa and Arizona. He loved being involved in all the activities and easily made great friends in their retirement community in Arizona.

Mack is survived by his wife Cathy Deichman; daughters Shannon (Don) Lindell, Malinda (David) Wollaston, and Marylee (Eric) Rehm; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sisters Dortha (Kenneth) Agnew and Naomi Peterson.
