George E. Heckathorn

George Edwin Heckathorn, 83, passed away peacefully at Taylor House Hospice on June 20, 2023.

George was born in 1940 in Muskegon, MI. He grew up in Michigan and after graduating from high school, joined the Army. He was stationed in Germany, where he met his wife, Eva, at a carnival. It was love at first sight. After being discharged, George and Eva settled in Muskegon, Michigan. George worked for Massey Ferguson in the finance department. They moved a lot with George's job and finally landed in Iowa.

George had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh. He loved the Lord and his dogs.

George is survived by his sons, Bill (Micki) Heckathorn and Anthony Heckathorn; six grandchildren, Phillip Heckathorn, James (Grace) Heckathorn, Ava (Matt) Zager, Michael Heckathorn, Kelsie (James) Heckathorn, and Sierra Neuroth; and siblings, Joyce (Jerry), Jim and Bob (Mary).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva, and his parents.

George’s gift of life will continue as a donor to Des Moines University. He gives students the opportunity to study the human body, help advance medicine, and further the care of others suffering with Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s.
