Service Details

Om Shanti.

With a deep sense of sorrow, we are sharing the passing away of Shri N.C. Narasingham on June 17, 2023, in Des Moines, Iowa, USA.

Shri Narasingham was born in Tirupati, southern India on November 13, 1932. Though born in the south, he spent the first 11 years of his life in Lahore (in current Pakistan). This exposure to both north and south Indian cultures allowed him to become fluent in 6 languages as a child. At the tender age of 11 when his father passed away, he inherited major family responsibilities as the oldest child in the family. The journey was tough in a conservative India of yesteryears, but he upheld those responsibilities up until his very last day and remained an ever-loving and devoted son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.

Shri Narasingham graduated with distinction with a Master's degree in High Voltage & Power Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in the early independence years of India. He declined lucrative offers from multinational companies and instead decided to dedicate himself to the service of a young India by joining the Indian Railways (IRSE) as a gazetted officer. His major contribution to the country was in his relentless efforts toward the electrification of the Indian Railways via several important and critical projects. He was a technical & management expert of the highest order and was well-known for his leadership, fearlessness, and inclusivity. He retired from the Central Railways in 1990.

Gifted with many talents, including in cricket where he captained the University of Mysore, he was featured in newspapers for scoring many centuries and wins. Many will remember him for his vast and deep knowledge in several fields, his ability to inspire multiple generations, and his commitment to upholding honesty and righteousness.

He is survived by his wife, Smt. Devaki Narasingham, his sisters, Smt. Usha Dhanalal and Dr. N.V. Vaijayanthi, daughter Smt. Padmini Soni, son Shri. Venkatesh Chakravarthy and their families.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa.
