Service Details

Wayne David Hall, Sr., age 70, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023, at his home in Des Moines after battling the lingering effects of cancer.

Wayne was born in October 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa to Dale LeRoy Hall and Velma Grace (Janes) Hall.

He was a mechanic, truck driver, UPS loader, and would help anyone who asked him with car trouble or home improvement projects.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, many of whom he considered family. He enjoyed spending time at the family farm and being in nature. He was an excellent hunter, fisherman and avid outdoorsman. In his youth he was a proficient all-star baseball player, later playing on the Spirit fast-pitch softball team as catcher hitting many home runs. He was a huge race fan and shared his love of fast cars and racing with his son David. As mechanic and crew chief he wrenched many seasons racing go-karts, stock cars, and sprint cars with his son. Together they won three championships as well as many race wins, track records, and an untold number of unforgettable memories on and off the track. Most of all he enjoyed being a doting grandpa to his two granddaughters. He was very active with them as they grew up, built a swimming pool for them, and doted on them relentlessly. They were the light of his life.

Wayne is survived by his son Wayne David Hall, Jr., his sisters Jean Harper and Sharon Turner, sister-in-law Nanette Hall, many nieces and nephews, and his two granddaughters, Shelby and Emma.

He was preceded in death by his brother Dale (Junior), grandson Seth David, parents Dale and Velma, and his brother William (Bill) Hall.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery after the services.
