Judy McClain

Judy McClain, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.

Judy was born January 1, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa to Henry Frazier-Greene and Bernice Rhone. She was raised by her step-father, David Rhone. Judy married her husband, Ron McClain in the 70s and they remained committed to each other until his passing. She worked for Bankers Life, Standard Life, and Amoco during her working years. Her hobby was genealogy, and after retirement she worked at the Iowa Genealogical Society.

Judy loved her entire extended family dearly. She was a devoted dog mom to her dog, Harley. She liked spending time gardening and enjoyed adult coloring books. She was a lifelong member of Kyles AME Zion Church on 15th Street in Des Moines.

She is survived by her siblings, Duane Rhone, Don (Lynn) Rhone, John Rhone, Jean Parker, Janise Rhone, and Jeannette Rhone; her step-children, Kim Eaves, LaVern L. McClain (Melinda), Teresa Ransom (Reverend James), and Tina Williams (John); and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald McClain; father, Henry Frazier-Greene; mother, Bernice Rhone; step-father, David Lee Rhone, Sr.; sister, Margaret Vaughn; and her brothers, Richard Rhone and David Lee Rhone II.

There will be a memorial service at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines with Pastor Vivian Bryson officiating Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.
