Service Details

Patricia Ann (Harrison) Haning passed away peacefully on June 10, 2023 at Park Centre in Newton, Iowa at the age of 90. Pat was born on February 18, 1933 in Chatham, Illinois to Herbert Harrison and Stella (Bown) Harrison.

She was raised in Nevada, Iowa and graduated from Newton High School in 1950. After attending a year at The University of Iowa, she was married to our dad, David Oliver Haning, on August 9, 1953. He was stationed in the Navy at Portsmouth, Virginia, they lived there until 1956 upon his honorable discharge from service. They then moved back to their home state of Iowa where they eventually settled in the small town of Bondurant, population 350!

Our mom was devoted to her family, her church, and her community. She, along with our dad, taught us to know God’s grace, be honest and learn the wisdom to do the right things in life. She stayed home to raise us through junior high and then went to work as a secretary to help put her three kids through college. She worked in the Iowa State Legislature and continued her secretarial work at the Bondurant-Farrar School District for the Superintendent. Retiring in 1979, she and dad traveled and explored 45 of our 50 states.

Pat was active in her church in nearly every position she was asked to serve. She was known for her generosity of time spent in local community organizations volunteering wherever needed and was honored to be a past President of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her dear friends formed a group they called MCC’s, but would never reveal what that acronym stood for. As they often met for lunches or dinners out, their husbands laughingly coined it the “Mother’s Can’t Cook Club”! We still to this day do not know what the letters stand for, but we know they had a lot of fun keeping that secret.

Pat will forever be loved and missed by her three children, Vikki (Chris) Herbold of Mingo, IA, Tom (Debi) Haning of Lone Tree, CO., and John (Patti) Haning of North Salt Lake, UT. Others left to mourn her loss include 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren who gave her endless joy and many adored nieces and nephews.

We are comforted to know that her prayer to be reunited in Heaven with her husband, David, has been answered. Also, there to greet her are her parents, Herb and Stella; her step father, Ron Fuller; her sister, Jerry Hodgson and step-siblings; brothers and sisters-in-law who provided many fond and loving memories that sustained her through her later years.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Park Centre Health Care, who treated Mom with such respect and outstanding care. We are more than grateful for your kindness.

Memorials may be made to the Bondurant Christian Church or the Bondurant American Legion Post #396.

Services will take place at Bondurant Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, 304 Grant Street S., Bondurant, IA on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., prior to services at the church.
