David W. Jensen

David W. Jensen, 80, passed away June 1, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. Services will be held, Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Community of Christ, 4504 Ashworth Road in West Des Moines, IA at 1:00 p.m.

David was born in Nevada, IA on August 20, 1942 to Isabel (Scheel) and Marvin Jensen. He graduated from Tech High School in Des Moines and then attended Graceland University. David proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany and Vietnam. After his honorable discharge he worked as a Draftsman and later for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 2005.

David spent a lot of time with his family. He also enjoyed exploring the outdoors, biking, hiking, kayaking and camping in the woods. He was an artist and a fine craftsman making many items for gifts to the church, and his family and friends. David was a volunteer with the Club Eagles, a special needs organization for youth and adults through Community of Christ. For many years, it was his pride and honor to take the group to Disney on Ice and pottery classes in Valley Junction. He also held the priesthood office of Deacon in the Community of Christ Church.

David is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Cary; his children, Valerie, Stephen and Kai (Jeremy); his grandchildren, Angel and Brett; several great-grandchildren; his sister, Sherry; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Scott; and his sister, Janet Sue.
