Service Details

Robert John “Bob” Phares went home to his heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 25, 2009.

Bob was born March 23, 1925 in Des Moines to Alfred and Marie (Bleything) Phares. He attended North High School and began working at Meredith Publishing in 1942. He left to serve in the Navy during WWII and then returned to work at Meredith until 1987.

On September 15, 1946 he married the love of his life, Peggy Kalberg. They had two children. He traveled the world with his wife, was an avid coin collector and loved to create things out of wood. He treasured his family more than anything and loved spending time with and making things for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Recently he was honored and thrilled to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. and see the WWII and other memorials.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years; his children, Art (Terri) Phares and Dorothy (Dwayne) Hall; his grandsons, Brent Phares, Rob (Jayce) Hall and Matt Hall; his great-grandchildren, Cody, Ayden and Gracey Hall; and his brother, Jack Phares. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Leo Phares, Lorraine Olson, Alfred Phares, Jr. and Ray Phares.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 30, 2009 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
