John H. Wood went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 26, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

John was born on April 25, 1933 in Rossville, Illinois to Harold and Mabel (Andrews) Wood. John grew up in Hoopeston, Illinois where he met his wife Trudy (Houmes) Wood. They were married on September 16, 1956 at First Baptist Church in Hoopeston. John is survived by his loving wife of 66 years along with their three children, Steve (Sue) Wood, Iowa, Anita Wood (Jim Giacchetti), Florida, and Lisa (Andy) Hall, Texas; seven grandchildren, Patrick (Chelsey) Wood, Tim (Lisa) Wood and Kelsey Wood (Brian Scheffler) all of Iowa; Erin (Dylan) Eilau, Ohio, Ellen Hall (Ryan Seymour), Texas, Brian Hall, Colorado and Jacob Hall, Texas. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Emma Wood, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Harry Wood, Everett Wood, sister-in-law Barbara Wood and nephew Bill Wood.

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He served four years of active and an additional four years of reserve duty. He was honorably discharged in August 1960. He was
an Electrician at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois before retiring in 1990. He continued working at Christie Clinic in Champaign, Illinois for 21 years.

John and Trudy made their home in Champaign, Illinois for 65 years before moving to Urbandale, Iowa to be closer to family. John was a charter member of Garden Hills Baptist Church, Champaign, Illinois for 40 years and Calvary Baptist Church, Urbana, Illinois for 22 years, and proudly served his Lord in numerous capacities at both. John enjoyed various hobbies such as gardening, reading and woodworking. His woodworking skills were admired by many, most of all by his family who cherish his numerous projects. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his family.

John will be laid to rest at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, Illinois at a private burial on a later date. Pastor Gary Gritton will officiate.
