Service Details

Quincy Dale Ellis, 51, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.

Quincy was born on April 19, 1972, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Edna and Morris Ellis. He was the youngest of nine siblings: three sisters and six brothers and graduated from Snider High School in 1990. Quincy then enlisted in the Marines, where he served from June 12, 1990, until September 11, 1996. After returning home, Quincy earned an associate degree in Early Childhood Education and worked for Head Start. He then became a nurse assistant for more than 20 years in the VA Health Care System.

In 2011, he met the love of his life (Margo J. Lane Kirkpatrick) and moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Not only did he continue to work for the VA Hospital, but Quincy also raised Camden as his own son, and in 2013, they welcomed daughter Kyla into the Ellis family.

Quincy thoroughly enjoyed serving the veterans at the VA Hospital, being involved in his church, spending time with his wife, children and puppy, and most importantly, growing in his faith.

Quincy is survived by his wife, Margo J. Ellis (Camden and Kyla), three sisters and five brothers: Barbara Vlasek (Damien Rogers), Sylvia Ellis (Kenneth and Stanley), Valerie and Steve Baxter, (William and Steven), Kelvin and Suzanne Washington, (Brandon, Anthony and Whitney), Ronald Birchfield (Jaronda, Laura and Ronnie), Phillip and Ann Birchfield, (Phil, Chanese, Trent and Jacqueline), Julian and Angela Ellis, (Jarren), and Morris Jr. and Priscilla Gray (Keva, Gloria, Morris Jr. III, Stephanie and Morrisa). Quincy was also a very close friend to Deborah Johnson and Doreen Birchfield.

Quincy was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Ellis (2017), father, Morris Ellis (2012), and brother, Reginald Ellis (2018).

Quincy was loved by many for his gentle spirit, unending patience, and compassionate heart. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He would want everyone to know that he is alive and well now in the joyful presence of the one he loved most…Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
