Ron Cruikshank

Ronald Orvis Cruikshank, 79, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, May 14, 2023 as a Hospice patient at the Urbandale Care Center.

Ron was born on July 15, 1943 in Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa to Miriam and Orvis Cruikshank. After graduating from East High School, as an accomplished violinist, Ron’s focus was on music at Luther College and he graduated with a B.A. from Drake University in 1995. An early adapter for computer programming, Ron served as a computer system programmer for the Iowa Credit Union League prior to his retirement.

Ron sang in the Drake University Choir for many years and enjoyed the challenge of solving even the most difficult Sudoku puzzles as well as collecting stamps and coins.

He married Jean Johnston of Des Moines in 1973 and is survived by his devoted and beloved wife of 49 years. Ron is also survived by his sister Karen Aldrich (Ron) of Urbandale and brothers Jon Cruikshank (Susan) also of Urbandale and Brian of South Dakota; and 11 nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents.

Ron chose to be cremated with no immediate services. The family is currently making plans for A Celebration of Life remembrance at a later date. Further details will be shared with friends and family soon.
