Joe was born to Marcus and Beatrice (Duffy) Malloy on April 15, 1938. He was blessed to grow up on a farm outside of Joice, Iowa, with his four siblings, James, Mary Ann, Eleanor and Sharon. After graduating from Joice High School, Joe attended Mason City Junior College and the University of Iowa.

Following college, Joe joined the U.S. Navy where he served our country for two years at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, and aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga CVA-60. He was honorably discharged in August 1965.

In retirement, Joe spent much of his time enjoying the outdoors. Joe could typically be found on his favorite John Deere tractor mowing not only his yard but also helping neighbors, as well as mowing the grounds of St. Theresa Church.
