A. Marie Cumpston

Ann Marie Cumpston, 89, passed away on May 13, 2023, at Valley View Village.

She was born on June 12, 1933, in South Carolina to Hobson and Ethel Manuel. She did clerical work at Iowa Work Force Development with the State of Iowa for many years. She married Kenneth Cumpston on December 19, 1953.

Marie was a woman of faith, a devoted churchgoer, taught Sunday school, and was an active member of Airport Baptist Church & Willow Creek Baptist Church (now known as Soteria Church). She was an avid reader, especially the Bible and mystery novels. She enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Europe, the Caribbean, and The Holy Land.

She is survived by her children, Ken (Pam) Cumpston, Jr. and Sherry Cumpston; grandchildren, Tiffany (Adam) Nolan and Brian Cumpston; great-grandchildren, Ella and Emma Nolan; and sister, Lucy Steedley.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Cumpston, Sr.; and sister, Lula Osborne.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Marie will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
