Peggy Colleen Frye passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
Peggy was born January 4, 1933 to Chester and Frances Wiltsie and lived on a farm near Indianola, IA.

Peggy was a talented singer and when she was six, she danced and sang at famed baseball legion Bob Feller’s homecoming and also performed at the Iowa State Fair. She attended a one room schoolhouse in Commerce, Iowa. The family then moved to Des Moines where she graduated from Lincoln High School and had sang in many music performances. She received a music scholarship to Augustana College but choose instead to marry Fred G. Frye, Jr. so he could attend college. They married March 22, 1952 and celebrated 70 years of marriage last year.

In 1989, Peggy and Fred entered the Lord’s presence at the Omaha Gospel tabernacle. Peggy said it was like going home! They had both accepted Jesus and when an Evangelist Explosion team came to call, they both were soon training teams to share the gospel. Fred and Peggy then moved to upper New York to be an Outreach Pastor for Fulton Alliance Church for 7 years. Peggy served “the bread of life ministry”, volunteered at the Salvation Army and the Crisis Pregnancy Center.

Later they served at Rivercrest Bible Camp in Fremont, Nebraska for 7 years where Fred was director and Peggy was in charge of food service.

Peggy and Fred later were chaplains at Camp Mitigwa where they were well equipped to serve as Peggy was involved in Girl Scouts and Fred in Boy Scouts of Omaha for many years.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Fred; her 3 children, Robin Frye, Tracy Frye, Debra Kohl; son-in-law, Phillip Kohl; and 7 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jene.

Peggy and Fred were members of Valley Church, 4343 Fuller Road in West Des Moines where a memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation prior from 10 to 11 a.m.

Peggy was a wonderful mother and wife and will be greatly missed.
